People are only afraid of change because they fear the unknown, but sometimes the things that terrify us the most have a way of bringing out the best in us.
The greatest decision I ever made was the day I moved away from home 4 years ago. It was difficult and terrifying, but it made me into the woman I am today. Leaving the only environment I had ever known changed me in ways I never imagined. Plus, I met the love of my life.
- Because change is good for the soul
Change is essential to our growth because it opens the doors for new opportunities and beginnings. When we stay grounded in the same routine, we lose passion. When we’re constantly surrounded by negativity, it prevents us from growing. Home will always be home, it’s not going anywhere but you are constantly moving.
- You have nothing to lose
Give yourself a chance to grow by doing something different. Don’t be quick to assume the worst. If things don’t work out, at least you know you gave it a shot. You don’t want to look back years from now, wondering “what-if.” We can only learn and grow from our experiences.
- It’s a fresh start
When you leave the only place you’ve ever known, a new chapter opens up. It’s your chance to do the things you never did, and create new relationships with people you’ve never met. You have the chance to surround yourself with people who share the same goals and ambition as you.
- You realize who your true friends are
Moving away from home definitely shows you who will stay and who will go. Before, I left I had more friends than I can count. Now, I have only a handful and I’m perfectly ok with that. It took distancing myself from family and friends to see who actually cared.
- You discover who you are
Being somewhere else helped me understand where I wanted to go in life. I don’t think people change but we start to wake up. Sometimes it takes leaving your comfort zone to see things under a different light. You start developing new interests and habits. Taking the road unknown motivates you to explore your hidden passion and goals.
