8 Simple Ways To Improve Your Self-esteem

Having low self-esteem can make the world appear dark and gloomy for days to come. I’ve had moments where I felt really insecure and shameful over past choices. The only way I was able to overcome them was by breaking out of my toxic habits and finding joy in my life.

When you feel negative about yourself, it affects your worldview, attitude, and overall perception. It’s why confident people are usually successful or happy, while people with low self-esteem tend to suffer from depression. There are simple things you can do to regain confidence.

Practice inner-dialogue

Think happy thoughts. Literally. Even when you feel like crap, force yourself to break out of that negative thinking. The best pep-talk is the one you give yourself. A great way to improve your inner-speech is through meditation.

Get off social media 

Social media can definitely make you feel less confident. Especially, if you’re constantly comparing yourself to others. It’s not healthy.  Models and influencers have even admitted to unfollowing certain accounts due to self-esteem issues. 

Don’t let negative emotions control you

Most people run the other way when their faced unwavering feelings they can’t handle. Anything you feel is necessary. And coping with those emotions is the only way to free yourself from feeling bad. If you feel anxious or afraid, try to acknowledge the feeling and understand why its there in the first place. Don’t attempt to escape it just accept and it will vanish.

Be more positive

Positivity can turn your entire life around, and it doesn’t even require a lot of work. Just a little bit of self-love, and appreciation. Sometimes distancing yourself from negative energy can lead you in a positive direction. Try eliminating any little thing bringing you down.

Talk to someone

A low concept of self can be a result of loneliness. If you’re unable to work through your problems alone, try confronting a good friend or family member about them. Sometimes the only thing you need is to be heard. Talking about your feelings usually helps identify what the problem is.  

Find some joy in life

Most of the time when people feel negative about themselves its because they don’t take any time for themselves. If your life solely revolves around work and home, it’s time to step outside of your comfort zone. Give yourself time to do more of what you love. Pick up a hobby, workout, cook, take long walks, draw, read inspirational books, etc. (I would say adopt a dog if you don’t already have one).

Take care of your body

To achieve a healthy mind, you must take care of your body. Make sure you’re eating healthy, getting enough sleep, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly and nourish yourself properly. 

Maintain good personal hygiene

As obvious it may sound, it’s quite common for people with low self-esteem not to pay any attention to their personal hygiene. Simple things like showering regularly, brushing your teeth, and maintaining your physical appearance can surprisingly do wonders for your self-esteem.
